Car Insurance Mercury (Car Insurance). odometer on my car is not of the engine?odometer on my car is not of the engine? my brother had boughten a car back in 2005, when he bought it from the dealership it was used but the previous owner had swapped out the engine and transmission. all the paperwork was provided to us that showed the actual miles on the engine (since the odometer cannot be moved back to zero by law) but now that i want to sell the car we cant find the paperwork. is there any other way that i can prove the actual mileage on the engine, i thought the dealership we bought the car might have copies of the paperwork but i think thats a long shot. when the engine was swaped wouldnt the previous owner have to register it with the department of transportation. im pretty sure if thats what he had to do then he would do it, cause the guy was a cop. if you have any idea please let me know. Not necessarily. Don't go by the notion that since he's a cop, he'll follow the law. Try the dealership or get the vin number off of the engine. Your best bet is finding the paperwork. I would think a reputable dealer would have these records available but it just depends on who replaced it. Maybe it was reported to carfax and if you get the report it would prove that it in fact did receive a new engine. Other than that you pretty much out of luck as nobody has to report any maintanance or repair that has been done to the vehicle expect maybe in the cases of an accident. its all over/the miles on the car is what it is/if odometer is not working its TMU/true mileage unknown The engine number should have been reported to the DMV for that car since now the VIN and engine numbers do not match. The info should be accessed through your current registration- I hope. Contact the DMV. Auto parts : Grease Gun Acura 1995 . Grease Gun Adapter Alfa Romeo 1996 . Grease Hose Audi 1997 . Mercury . How do I Troubleshoot a 2.0 L Hercules Engine? The Hercules Engine Company produced heavy-duty industrial motors from 1915 to 1999. The company's primary customer was the military, which used them in everything from jeeps to generators. The operating principles for the Hercules motor are the same as for any engine: It requires a timed spark, clean fuel, air and compression to make it run. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Wrenches Fresh gasoline Timing lightChecking the basics. Step by Step : 1 Locate the air filter housing and remove the paper element. Hold it up to a bright light and inspect it for dirt, debris or oil residue. A clean element will brighten in the light; a dirty one will be dark or black and not let any light through. Tap the element lightly against a hard surface, such as concrete; observe any debris that falls out. Replace the element if excessively soiled, as a dirty or plugged air filter will restrict airflow to the engine. 2Use clean gasoline.Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images Drain a little bit of gasoline from the carburetor into a glass jar. It should be a light amber and smell clean and fresh. Old gas is dark in color and smells like paint varnish; the sample may also have particulates floating in it. Old gas is difficult to ignite and burns poorly. Debris in the fuel can plug up jet orifices in the carburetor and keep the engine from running. Drain the fuel tank, lines and carburetor bowl, if necessary, and replace with fresh fuel. Also replace the fuel filter. 3 Remove number one spark plug from the engine. Check the plug to see if there are deposits on the electrode that would impede ignition; clean it, if necessary. Ground the plug with a jumper wire and briefly roll the motor over with the starter. See if a spark jumps the electrode. A bluish-white spark indicates a good ignition circuit; a yellowish or no-spark condition results from a weak plug, a bad ignition secondary cable, ignition points that are dirty or out of adjustment or possibly a bad distributor cap, rotor or coil. Inspect each of these items and adjust or replace accordingly. 4 Locate the timing marks on the vibration dampener on the front of the engine. It is a small line that will correspond with a plate on the block that has numbers indicating the top dead position of the number one cylinder and the degrees of position before. Hook the timing-light power supply on the proper battery cables and the induction pickup on number one plug wire. Roll the engine over with the starter and aim the timing light at the marks on the vibration dampener. The light will strobe when the plug fires. Make sure the light illuminates the marks at the proper setting, usually around 5 degrees before top dead center. The distributor can be rotated to obtain the manufacturer's listed settings. 5 Testing the compression on each cylinder determines the integrity of the internal upper-engine parts. When using the tester, make sure all the plugs are removed, the coil is grounded and the throttle is held wide open. Compare the pressure results. They should all fall within 20 psi of one another. Low or no compression indicates worn rings or leaking valves. Tips & Warnings Make use of your senses, especially your smell and sight to observe test results. Neoprene gloves will help protect your hands from gas and oil. Gasoline is extremely flammable. Keep sparks and flames away while draining and refueling. Keep hands away from the spark plugs while testing for spark. ResourcesHercules engine parts
Mercury . How to Make a Stock '94 Chevy S10 Go FasterThere are a few avenues to take when trying to increase the power of the 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup. While all of them work to some degree, some produce better results than others do without having to rip apart the engine or replace the engine entirely. Smaller modifications and less expensive parts can produce highly satisfactory results without your spending a load of cash. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Automotive hand tools Cold air intake Throttle body spacer Reciprocating saw High-flow exhaust system Step by Step : 1 Remove the stock air box by unbolting it from the core support, and then loosen the compression fitting which attaches the air intake hose to the throttle body. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor and the mass air-flow sensor. You can now lift the air intake out of the engine compartment. 2 Disconnect the mass air-flow sensor from the intake tubing and inspect it for dirt or debris. A mesh grill covers the sensor diode. Use a flat screwdriver to remove this mesh screen by pushing it out of the end of the housing. Use caution to avoid damage to the diode itself. 3 Unbolt the throttle body from the intake manifold by loosening the four bolts located on its four corners. Install the throttle body spacer between the throttle body and the intake manifold, and then bolt the throttle body into place using the hardware supplied with the throttle body spacer. 4 Assemble, and then install the cold air intake onto the throttle body using the compression fitting, and bolting the intake tubing into place with the supplied hardware. Install the intake air temperature sensor and the mass air-flow sensor into the intake tubing. 5 Remove the stock exhaust system by unbolting the compression flange, located between the muffler and the catalytic converter. You may have to use a reciprocating saw to cut the stock exhaust out of the truck more easily. 6 Install the replacement exhaust system using the stock exhaust hanger locations, being careful to route the exhaust tubing over the rear axle, not underneath it. Tips & Warnings Removing the screen from the mass air-flow sensor decreases the turbulence of air entering the intake, but it generally will set off a dashboard check engine light as the engine senses that there is too much air entering the throttle body. Compensate for this by clearing the engine code with a hand-held diagnostic tool. And M 's the pressuie caused by the rapid expansion of explodmq gases that drives the engine. The only way lo get gasoline to explode is to mix it with air hence the necessity of the fuel air mixture. This, incidentally, is why so many accidents occur with npat-empty gasoline cans People tend lo think that ;in .llmost-emply can of qasohne is harmless, hut this is when il's at its most dangeious1 The 'pmpty" can still contains o tiny bit ot gasoline, and you need only one pan ot gasoline lo 9,000 parts of air lo rjel a combustible mixture! (See the sidebar called "How to dispose of empty gasolinp cans safnly' in Chapter!) The choke At the top of the carburetor barrel, looking up at you after you remove the air cleaner, is the choke (see the sidebar "Automatic chokes"). The choke limits the supply of air entering the venturi in order to enrich the fuel/air mixture. The choke consists of a little adjustable butterfly valve that can open and close. When you go out to start your car in the morning, the choke helps you start and warm up the engine faster. Here's how: When your car is cold, as much as one-third of the gasoline can condense on the cold metal parts of the carburetor, leaving only two-thirds of the fuel/air mixture on its way to the engine. This amount is not enough for proper combustion, so your car won't start properly. To enrich the mixture, the butterfly valve on the choke stays closed, inhibiting the supply of air. 303

The resulting fuel/air mixture is richer than the stuff you usually drive on, but the choke returns to normal after the car warms up. )12 Part II: What Makes It Go? Automatic chokes Cars used to have manual chokes, which you controlled by a knob on the dashboard. Today, most cars have automatic chokes that work by means of a spring that coils and uncoils in response to the amount of heat present. This spring eventually causes the butterfly valve to open and close. If you have an automatic choke, chances are that it's controlled by a thermostat located on the outside of the carburetor, either at the top of Butterfly valve Choke thermostat Mercury . The first type looks like a little round cap with little arrows on it that say "Lean" and "Rich." By turning this knob, you can adjust the proportion of air that's allowed into the carburetor barrel past the butterfly. The second type (see the figure below) uses a rod attached to the thermostat to make the butterfly open and close. Fortips on checking and adjusting the choke, see Chapter 13. \ Rod to thermostatic coil The accelerator pump Have you ever wondered what makes your car speed up when you step on the gas pedal? It's a very simple device called an accelerator pump — so unsophisticated that you'd think the inventor would have been embarrassed to suggest such a gadget. When you step on the gas pedal to accelerate, a rod connecting the pedal to a little lever on the outside of the carburetor pushes on a little piston inside the carburetor, which squirts a little extra fuel into the venturi. That extra fuel creates a richer fuel/air mixture, which explodes .Chapter 6: The Fuel System: The Heart and Lungs of Your Car / / •? with a bigger bang in your cylinders, giving ypur car that extra push called acceleration. If your car hesitates when you step on the gas, your accelerator pump may not be working properly. Chapter 13 has instructions for checking and adjusting your accelerator pump. The throttle Mercury . The greater the vacuum in the venturi, the more fuel is drawn out of the float bowl and mixed with the air. The richer the fuel/air mixture, the faster the car goes At high speeds, the throttle is wide open to allow a lot of air to come into the carburetor. At low speeds, the throttle closes so that less air can get in. The big lever on the outside of the carburetor (see Figure 6-6) is the throttle arm. It's attached to the gas pedal and controls the throttle, which is a butterfly device (very much like the butterfly valve) located at the bottom of the carburetor, where it joins the intake manifold. Figure 6-6: The throttle arm on the outside of the carburetor. Part II: What Makes It Go?. The idle speed screvO The idle speed screw is a little screw located at the bottom of your carbure tor, on the outside, right near the throttle. It keeps the throttle from closing completely when your foot is off the gas pedal and the car is idling. (Idling is what the car does when it just sits there humming to itself without moving.
